1. The brief

Metropolis Bookshop is an independent bookshop that focuses on architecture, design and counterculture books. The bookstore wants to have more profit from the online shop, and however, the online bookshop is confusing. So, my goal was to redesign the current website to help spontaneous customers find their favourite books and increase the cart conversion rate

How might we help the spontaneous customer find the book they might look for?

How might we surprise them?

2. Key founding from research

  • Spontaneous buyers don't have a clear purchase goal, and they like the new and exciting things.

  • Most of the bookshops doesn't have a rating system.

  • It's hard to get help from the staff online.

  • The check out system on the current website is confusing.

3. The solution

  • Add personal recommendations according to customers' preferences.

  • Add random book function to provide more fun and surprise.

  • Improve the existing check out process.

4. Testing & result

I test with 6 users.

  • They think the personal recommender is helpful.

  • They like the random books function.

I need to

  • Add contact information before shipping detail because some customers might buy the books for others.

  • Simplifying the process in the preference questionnaire section.

5. Next step

I plan to develop it into a responsive design. And I do some UI design for this project.

6. Reflection

  • Learning to think from the user's perspective and the business perspective.

  • Learning to design an experience based on business capability and resources.
